The original Echo (East Coast Hang Out) started as an online message board/salon in 1989. The site received great publicity in the mid-90’s as people embraced a non-tech community, and Echo managed to draw a large number of women to the site. The design has essentially been the same since 2000 (ie. 500px wide) and still contains a link to the Gopher message board.
